Islandus Chronograph

Postby JS Founder on Tue Feb 17, 2009 4:31 pm

Dear all

The first picture of the 44 mm JS Watch co. Islandus Chronograph, Valjoux 7750. The picture were taken by Siggi and Gilbert our watchmakers after they assembled the prototypes......Now for the big question, should we have the second hand and the stop watch hands steel blued??

We have just got the enamel white dial,,,,,,I think the steel blued hands would make this perfect.

regards,
Julius

Hi Village

No not yet, our 7750´s movements are not ready........with our finish, so we need to see what the final cost of the project will be, I hope to be able to show you the enamel white dial soon...it´s even better than the sunburst white on those pictures.

Since the date is in Icelandic, we could also make the day/date font and color different like on one of those old pocket watches, fancy font and day in blue and date in red etc??

Since this one is still in its prototype stages, we are open for ideas from the JS community here.

JJulius - congratulations on such a beautiful design. I'm sure the JSW finish on the 7750 will be stunning.

I am having trouble seeing the steel hands on the hands on the black dialed version, I am not sure if that is just the angles or lights or whatever. What about white on the hands on the black dialed version like in the photo of the islandus on your site?

As to the white enameled dial (which would be my first choice) - what about keeping the "Breguet" hands of the Islandus? I love the day date design, and in my humble opinion, they look better without color, as you have them in the photos.

As for the Blue hands - what about making the hour and min hands blued steel, like on the old deck watches - with the enamel background, won't you need either blue or black? The only thing I would worry about with the blue is adding too many little bits of color, since you already have the bold red XII - then if you add too much blue, you end up with a colorful watch.... Maybe blue hour, min and chronograph seconds hands (the big one), regular steel on the on the registers, but no red XII?...or black (or steel) on the big hands and blue on the registers with no red?I don't know, can we see prototypes of all possibilities. :) haha

Will these be 44mm like the islandus?

I really like the idea of an white enamel dial! =) Any idea how many of the model will be available for sale?
Have you thought about doing a moon phase at some point?

Best Regards,

Hi Narwahl, Thomas Carey

Thank you for the dial/hands ideas.....we will take those into considerations when deciding the final look, like the idea of white Breguet hands on the black dial something I think we will use (and black background date windows).

The colorful watch point is a good one, but we then we are a small company and there is room for more selections, hand color/style etc. according to customer request, we will see (I dont mind another "colorful" watch in my collection, the Flightmaster is getting lonely).

The project start is linked to our own 7750, that is an expensive project to start, and we don´t want to go for movements that are not as good as our current ones.

Moon phase, triple date etc. is always something a collector would like to have.........so yes we do want to do that and hopefully in the not to distant future.

The Chrono steel case is 44 mm and identical to the 44 mm Islandus only difference are the pushers and it is thicker to accomodate the 7750.

Thanks for the positive feedback and keep those suggestions coming.

regards,
Julli

Wow, that is a very beautiful watch there. I think the blue-ed hands would be a good idea on the white face. On the black face perhaps red hands?

Keep up the good work there in Iceland :clap

It all sounds excellent Julius! Please be sure and post some hi-res photos of the movement when you are done having it finished!

Again, I think the position of the day-date feature on this watch is genius. It's a great way to incorporate the feature without cluttering the dial.

The watch is beautiful. I like the overall looks of the watch.
I think the idea of blued second hands is a good idea and will make the hands easier to read.

The fonts might be a bit tricky for me personally. I like the information to legible and I have seen many a great watch design hampered by overly ornate numerals and font styles. All this being said, the watch as it stands looks like it can accommodate many different styles of fonts.

Again, the watch is gorgeous!

Can't wait to see the next iteration.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi all

We are very fortunate to have "personal" relationships, with most of your "MAKERS" making these things accessible to us (giving us the oportunity to make our designs come to life) cases, dials, straps and movements........and also this interaction with enthusiasts and customers, brings me to another Islandus point!!

What do you think of offering Islandus hand wound UNITAS, with screw balance and swan neck...movement frosted gilt, sort of go for the old fashion look?

Hi

I would prefer to have all our models manual and automatic....as a watch nut the hand-wound are more and more appealing :-)

I will take this up at our next meating....the more I think of this, the better I like it.....the Frisland would be magnificent with a military style frosted gilt UNITAS, we could incorporate new materials in the balance and balance spring...old classic things like Swan-Neck etc.........I want one of those!!!!!

I always get carried away when I think watches...........

Excellent idea - closer to a deck watch. I think with that, an enamel dial with blued hands would be very fitting.

Wow... I'm very very impressed with the look of the watch! Very elegant... almost a throwback to the late 50s, early 60s chronos. I am definitely keeping an eye on this and hope the price is within my reach!
